Hi
Just had my first ever R&R at tesco on some sirloin steak and some rump steak :j :j ( i've never been able to afford to buy it!) that was the only reason i got it!
Anyway, i didn't want to just waste it by grilling it and having it with mash or chips, i wanted to do something special with it.
So has anyone got any ideas what i can do with it to make a nice change?

Really Sirloin is too good to do anything but flash frying it and serving it with tons of garlic butter
YUM!
Rump you can do tons of stuff with, I'd make a thai red curry or a casserole.My Doctor told me that "1 out of 3 people who start smoking will eventually die." The other two apparently became immortal.

You could do a beef stroganoff with it.
Or beef pockets- slice the steaks along the middle and put garlic, mushrooms and butter in the middle and then cook.
Or just have as is with a dijon sauce, really easy, just finely chop some onions and fry with some crushed garlic, add some dijon mustard cook up and then add cream and cook for a bit to reduce a bit, add bit of salt and peper to taste. Ta da! Really scrummy!! No measurements as you just make it to taste really.Official DFW Nerd no. 082! :cool:Debt @ 01/01/2014 £16,956 Debt now: £0.00 :j

If all you want is a dinner party feel to your steak, then how about this:
Have a hot plate available to keep things warm on (boiling some water in a saucepan and putting a plate on the top instead of a lid works wonders).
Fry some mushrooms in a spoonful of butter and a little oil. Put on one side.
In the same pan, add a little more butter/oil if necessary and fry your steak until it's just a bit unacceptably rare for your tastes. Then turn up the heat and pour a shot of brandy or whisky or other alcohol over the top. If you have gas, you can flamber this - tilt the pan so the whole thing catches fire (briefly!) - if not, just cook fiercely for a minute. Remove your steak to the hot plate to rest. Now deglaze the pan by adding a cup of wine or stock or even water and scraping any bits from the bottom of the pan. Boil FIERCELY until the mixture is reduced by at least half and is starting to look thicker and slightly syrupy. Reduce the heat and add a swoosh of cream. Stir in well. Your sauce should be quite thick now. Now return the mushrooms and the steak to the pan along with any juices from the plate and just heat through for a minute or so. (Resting the steak should have let it cook a bit more, so it should be cooked to your liking by the time it's heated through.) Serve with boiled new potatoes OR sauted potatoes OR dauphinoise potatoes (my own very slimming preference!) and veg of your choice.
Incidentally, your dauphinoise potatoes (should you choose to make them) can be cooking away in the microwave while you're doing the steak if you use the microwave method:
Stick 1oz of butter in a microwave dish and cook on HIGH one minute or until butter has melted;
Add one chopped onion and a crushed clove of garlic and cook on HIGH 2 mins or until onion is soft;
Add finely sliced potatoes, mixing well after you add each potato, and adding lots of black pepper and some salt. I usually allow 2 potatoes for the old man, 1 for me etc. Mix very well to make sure everything is coated with butter and give a final zhuzh of black pepper.
Pour milk over the top until it is almost level with the top of the potatoes.
Cook on HIGH 10 minutes. Take out and stir. You may need to add more milk if it's looking a bit dry. Cook on HIGH another 10 minutes. The potatoes should have absorbed all the milk and be creamy, garlicky and delicious!0 -
I really like this beef stroganoff recipe: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/quickbeefstroganoff_8250.shtml
And its so easy even I can do itYummy with rice and brocolli! Mmm all the other recipes sound great too but they would be too hard for me!

French style - grilled VERY quickly, serve with sauce roquefort, chips and green salad with vinaigrette. Quickest roquefort sauce : 2 tablespoons double cream, 2 oz roquefort cheese (or other blue cheese, whatever's around). These quantities are guesswork - add more cheese or more cream if you like it runnier or thicker. Melt together until bubbling. Pour over steak when it's grilled. I'm salivating just thinking about it.Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do criticise him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.0

I think Tesco sirloin is great - I bought a load a few weeks ago and popped in the freezer.
Here's a nice quick recipe on the peppered steak theme without the cream.
Pat steaks with crushed peppercorns and pan fry in a frying pan in a little butter & olive oil. When done keep warm and add 3/4 tablespoons of red wine. If you're like me you'll have some on the go whilst cooking the steak! Then let it bubble up and go all syrupy. Only takes a few minutes then add a little bit of balsamic vinegar and serve over the steaks. Delish with garlic mash or home made dauphinois potatoes0 -
