I´ve had a quick look through this forum but haven´t been able to find a source for checking printer cartridge use. I know that there are different combinations of cartridges for different printers i.e. some use 3 different cartridges for colours and 1 for black and some have an all in one cartridge for for colour and another one for black.
We´re looking for an all in one printer that you can use as a scanner and copier as well as a printer at the moment and would like to buy a model where we´re not going to be bankrupted by cartridge costs. We´re leaning towards and HP or Epsom.
Just wondered if anyone had a link to a website that provides this information. Even better would be a site that has comparisons on actual cartridge costs.
Thanks

Hi lisalouBest printer to buy for cartridge costs
You'd get a better response if you turned your heading from a statement into a question!
At the moment your thread looks to be giving details of the best printer to buy!
Make it something like "What is the best printer to buy for cartridge costs?"0 -

I have just bought a hp psc 1215. PC world has them for 69.99 but you can get them for marginally cheaper if you shop around.
A review of this unit can be found here.

Note you will have to get a USB cable, and you may want to invest in the large Ink cartridges (56 and 57) rather than 26 and 27.
And instructions on how to re-fill the cartridges can be found here.

I use the tesco refill kit. Info for that can be found here.
http://www.valuerefill.com - sometimes they have BOGOFs on these kits which make them very cheap.
I've only been using it a few days - but it's just like a photocopier - no difficult interfaces to use - you just put in the page and press the button. Very simple for scanning and copying. I was impressed by the quality.
Hope this helpsNo reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
Dont buy lexmark.
Never buy original supplies
Always buy carts online
Other than that I'd just buy on price. According to folklore in the computer supplies co. that I normally do work for Canon are best on inks. You might find that Epson are easier to get hold of.
A lot is on price though IMHO. Save £30 on a printer and thats god knows how many compat carts.
JaimeErr, I'll get back to you about the funny signature0 -
Canon generally are the cheapest to refill, followed by Epson.
They mostly rely on buying tanks of ink. (printhead fixed in situ, as part of printer) These can be got from altenative suppliers for not much more than £2 each. Jettec and Inkrite are recognised replacements, and Tesco are selling JR ones under the Tesco banner..To try and stop this, Epson have gone to the expense of putting microchips in their later printer's tanks, to no avail ;D
HP and Lexmark usually have to have replacement cartridges which include the printhead and electronics, thus making them more expensive. They also have patents to prevent other manufacturers producing alternatives, and so the cheaper versions are "remanufactured", and are really ones returned via bins in Staples and PCW which have been cleaned , re-filled and re-labelled.
Printers are so cheap that you might as well buy the cheapest that suits your needs and repeat every year or so.
If you do a lot of B&W, then you will find the Samsung laser regularly sold for less than £50 in the Comet vs Dixon Group wars. This neat little printer should do 3000 pages before toner is required.

As has been said already, Canon followed by Epson.. Personally i think you get a better print out from canon when compared to a similar model of Epson. Would stay away from HP or Lexmark as the only way to get cheap compatibles is to refill them yourself which can be messy.
Epson and Canon compatibles can be bought very cheaply from https://www.northdevoncomputers.com/shop from 99p per cartridge. You wont find much cheaper than that.Compatible ink cartridges from 87p each here0 -
got to be canon, carts for about 1 to 2 pound black and colour. try mp360 includes scanner and is preety good from my personel experiance0

Though my hp is less than a year old I have bought a Canon mp360 after reading the Which report on printers and I'm absolutely delighted with it. It doesn't go through the ink the hp did and the refills are so cheap.
