waltham cross - cheap things to do
Options
Hi looking for ideas for things to do in the area - we are staying overnight. We are 2 adults. We are staying at nice hotel with large grounds for walks IF the weather is nice.
I know theres royal gunpowder mills but cant find a voucher? Ive got 2 for 1 vouchers for myddleton house gardens, knebworth (not sure how near this is?) and Capel manor. But these are all outside so worried if the weather is bad - well if you have been to any of them are there things to do inside as well if weather is horrid? Any other suggestions would be fantastic thanks. We love history and animals - members of english heritage but cant see anywhere nearby with them.
trying to make sure i get organised as last time we went away hotel got changed at last minute and we had nothing planned and it wasnt so good!

Royal Gunpowder Mills is good especially if they've got a special event on. Free child voucher on 'Visit East of England' which is no good for you but might be useful for someone else.

And next door to Rye Meads is the fabulous, and cheap, Rye Meads Gatehouse. Find out about the failed Rye House plot to assassinate Charles II.

Roman museum (Verulamium) mosaics and Roman Theatre, abbey and shopping at St Albans. Quite an attractive town. Park down by the Verulamium musem and walk through the park and up the hill past the abbey into town. Plenty of places to eat.

If you're going this weekend then Copped Hall near Epping have a special open day on Sunday. I haven't been but it looks interesting.

Hatfield House. I went round the house for the first time last year and the guided tour was very interesting.

You can get to Knebworth in less than an hour. I suspect your Knebworth 2 for 1 voucher is for the grounds, gardens, adventure playground and dinosaur trail. You'd have to pay extra for the house when you're there. I haven't been round the house, but the grounds are geared up for kids so I'd advise giving this a miss.0 -
Thanks a lot the gatehouse at Rye Mead looks good especially if I could see some kingfishers!0
