Outlook Express doesn't receive email

This is a strange one ok. My brother's outlook express has suddenly stopped recieving emails into the inbox. The emails are being downloaded onto the pc however. He can retrieve them by searching for his email folder but this doesn't tell him what it is or who it's from which is obviously quite important. He can send from Outlook so there's no problem with the account. Anyone got any ideas? It's baffled me.
He's run AV, ewido, ad-aware etc in case there's something sinister changing his settings but nothing nasty has turned up.

Thanks for any input.

When were the folders last compacted? File, Folder, Compact.

If this doesn't work, if the Inbox.dbx file is moved to another directory, when OE is invoked, it will create a new Inbox.dbx file.

I can't imagine the file has ever been compacted. Why would that affect the email appearing in the inbox?

Check that there are no mail rules set up sending emails to other folders other than the inbox

General housekeeping and backups etc. should be done regularly. The Inbox.dbx file may have become too large or become corrupted.
