Well, I may have some good news, just got off the phone with NatWest and they have provisionally agreed a STEP account depending on proof of identity etc.
Now holding my breath.0 -
Fingers crossed for you!0

Thank god for that! I'm sure there's some law somewhere about a right to a bank account.Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345

Hi Squawk,
For needing a Mastercard, you could try the Cashplus card. It is the pre-loaded card, so not a credit card, and you can use it for hotel bookings, car rental, anything where Mastercard is accepted. For things like car rental, you would need to make sure it is loaded up with enough to cover the "hold deposit", at least a few hundred pounds. The catch is that it is £5 a month, and cash withdrawals cost extra, as does overseas use. You can even arrange to have your salary paid into it, but there is no direct debit facility, as far as I can tell. I have one and have been very happy with it.
Good luck!Debt-free in May 2015 with the help of Payplan and MSELightbulb Moment: November 22, 2004 :idea:0 -
Thanks for the suggestion, I have looked at that card but the NatWest account comes with a Solo card, so I "should" be able to use it for hotel bookings etc.0
