I dont know what sort of thngs your brother likes but if he likes to drink a lot, maybe you could put some paracetamols in there for him?.Sometimes.I.Wonder.Why.I'm.Still.Here..Sometimes.I.Think.I'm.Going.Crazy.0

Joke things like an alarm clock so he won't miss a lecture, paracetamol as FreebieRocker suggested, Red Bull for late night revising, can of beans (student's staple food)...
More ideas here... http://www.sawyers-specialties.com/survival-kits/school/college-freshman.php
How about a recipe book, could make one using quick and easy recipes online.

This looks like a great idea to pass on...

If he's staying in halls, a padlock would be useful to lock his food cupboard! Utensils are generally not provided so could be good. Maybe a voucher for a supermarket close by?
Also seen a cool little book full of random notes people in shared houses have left on fridges - v funny but can't remember what it's called, sorry!I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul, I want you to notice when I'm not around0 -
I think utensils are a good idea as you need them at uni but don't want to be spending money on things like that. I'd also add tinned foods and the like so he has things to hand at first.0

Utensils are good. Also if you are happy to donate him an old plate, bowl, mug etc - he won't have to worry about them getting broken.
Files,notepaper, pens.
Alcohol.
Biscuits, tea, coffee nice to offer round when meeting new people in halls.
A couple of tea towels.
Washing tablets. (2 in 1 things are easier for a laundrette).
Blanket, cushion, poster to help personalise his room.
Nice family photo(s) in a frame.
Thermous - so much cheaper than buying tea/coffee every day at lectures.0 -

Perhaps a copy of Student Grub, Student Cookbook or Cooking for Blokes - all of which have some really good basic/non-fancy recipes in them.0

Fancy Dress! :T
Takeaway Costumes can send a selection of fancy dress outfits in a pizza box! Can get it sent to them before they go to Uni or have it sent to them at Uni - great funThey will need lots of fancy dress outfits and these are sensibly priced! :j
Got one sent to my son who loved receiving it last year ( no pizza inside though :rotfl: )0
