Please help! Saturated carpet

Hi all,
Wondered if anyone had an old style remedy for wet carpets.
The other day i took delivery of a new carpet washer - Electric type.
However, after hubby had set it up i decided to give it a try out.
Imagine my horror when water from the tank poured out on to my living room carpet!
I have since rung the manufacturer and will get a replacement, but i have been left with a huge wet patch on my carpet. There was so much water, the machine couldn't suck it all up.
I have had windows open etc.. but it doesn't seem to be drying out.
I have a big party in 3 weeks and am worried that the carpet will stain & still be wet.
Any help much appreciated.

Get some towels, lay them flat and without shoes walk on them. This will help to soak up some of the excess water. Keep doing this until you can't soak up any more. Then keep wet patch covered with a cloth or something as in my experience wet spots just attract more dirt when you walk all over them.
Other than that I am afraid only time will dry it out.

Can you buy/borrow a dehumidifier to soak up the dampness in the room

I'd do the towels/walking on solution - maybe even tea towels as they're finer. Then find a fan heater (or hairdrier) to finish it off.

Also, if you can get UNDER the carpet, I'd put several sheets of newspaper/a towel under there to be soaking it up from that side too ... and replacing that regularly.

If carpet is ruined I'd be contacting the cleaner's manufacturer to get them to pay towards a replacement .

  • Hire or borrow a carpet cleaner ASAP. You need to get that water up.

The manufacturer should be paying for it though as a goodwill gesture.

Depending if you have a solid floor or not ?? I would take the carpet up
if there are floorboards , then you should be ok with a wet dry hoover..

You need to get a vax wet and dry hoover or similar to suck as much of the water out of the carpet as you can - Hire one , keep the receipt and send it to the firm that supplied the cleaning machine then as others have said lay towels on top and put the heating on to help dry it out.
It only costs about £45 (depending on the size of the room) to have a carpet cleaned professionally and I would go that route in future
