While I agree you need essentials & thought taking a slow cooker was an excellent idea, I also think you want to take as little as you have too, I would take essentials, but also have some idea of how many days your likely to eat out & in etc. Personally I find shopping for meals locally or on site easier than taking lots with us & fairly cheap when absorbed into holiday expence, although we usually have fish & chips on day of arrival & pub roast on Sunday so I start cooking on the Monday.0

When we go away to MIL caravan I tend to take loads of food but then again we try and do it as cheaply as poss and I don't want to be bothered thinking about going food shopping whislt on hoilday. You can pack most things in containers like HM cakes and any HM pre-cooked sauces, bacon & sausages for breakfasts. If we are only going for the weekend I will make all meals and put them in a cool box with ice packs for the journey, the box can then be used for taking the picnics/lunch during the day. Oh, and don't forget the wine!!Rebel No 220

I went to Center Parcs in Feb half term.
They supplyed 2 loo rolls one for each toilet.
They also supplyed washing up liquid, dish cloth and sponge.
We had a comfort villa which is the cheapest.
Something i did was to take a packet of antibac wipes so i did not have to take a spray bottle and cloths.0 -
We're going away for a week in June and had just written a list and meal planner a few days ago. Meals are:
1 x Take-Away (treat)
Roast Chicken, roasties, carrots, cabbage, parsnips and gravy
Chicken Chauseeur-chicken, veg, stock and mash done in SC
Spag Bol & Garlic bread
Shepards Pie & Veg
Curry & Rice
Egg & Chips
For the whole week (all meals inc lunches) Im taking:
Spuds, veg/salad, fruit, beans, tomatoes, kidneybeans, soup, peas, sweetcorn, tuna, coffee, tea, sugar, squash, lemonade, cereal, bacon, sausage, chciken, mince lamb, gravy, salt, pepper, sauce sachets-knicked..LOL, cheese, ham, crisps, biscuits, jam, oil, marmalade, mayo, corned beef, dried spagetti, chilli powder, rice, noodles, bread/rolls, butter, yogurts, eggs, milk, garlic bread, loo rolls, wash liquid, cloth, scourer, tea-towel, wash powder, bleach.
Will be taking the SC with us and taking pack ups when we go out. Breakies will be toast, bacon/sausage sarnies, fruit, cereal, egg on toast etc. Have also added snack food too, so we dont get too tempted to go over the shop and pay £1 for a bag of crisps.
All meals are easy to do

taking the SC is a fab idea!
id do like penny pincher and do a sort of rough meal planner
then youd only take as much food as you actually need
id do a bit of baking beforehand and freeze so its all HM treats ,muffins, flapjacks etc instead of shelling out while you are there0 -
To freeze milk : put milk in freezer (If you've bought it at the supermarket in the plastic bottles just put it in, the bottle with bend a bit as it freezes. Don't freeze in glass bottle).
To defrost: leave in fridge/work top till defrosted. Time will depend on temperature of your kitchen! In mine it takes about 24 hours but we have no heating. Shake a bit before using.0 -

Take a flask out and about with you so you do not need to buy drinks out. A cool bag with crisps, cake and the odd sarnie is a good idea too. I know it doesn't sound much to get a cuppa and a cake out but you can soon spend a tenner a day on bits.
I take as much with me when I go away as I can and often batch bake and freeze complete meals the week before. If I need to shop mid trip I go out and shop away from the touristy bit at an Asda, Lidl etc and never, ever use the onsite shops cos they rob you blind.
Have a great trip and have a few treats with the money you'll save.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0
