I'm not trying to force you to put more detail here, this is really a possible explanation over why the initial csa assessment went from £36pw to nil - as far as I know, prisoners do not have to pay anything as they have no real income.

If there is a possibilty your ex is currently working, you can ask the csa for a reassessment. Make sure though that their records state clearly that you do not authorise your address to be released.

If I can be perfectly honest, you clearly left a horrific situation and have had to change everything about you to allow you to live your life in anonimity and peace and I applaud you for that.

Is it really worth it? Your son is 15 and I realise you have brought him up with no help but I feel that if you are getting upset posting vague details and shaking then the stress of the CSA would probably make you very ill.

And I have to say I wouldn't trust the CSA - you should be able to - but I have gleaned many details about my ex over the years from them.

Personally I don't see the benefit of dragging everything up again and I think you should just let sleeping dogs lie - but that's purely my opinion.

You are on the old system (csa1) due to your claim starting 9 years ago.

When you first made the claim, I guess you did so as part of an income support claim? The violence section appeared on income support forms, which basically gave you a full entitlement to income support without the csa being involved in collecting from your ex. At a guess, you filled that particular section in and it was passed by income support, ie they didn't reduce your benefit. If you did then the csa case would have been closed, so I assume you would now have to make a new csa claim whether currently working or not.

I suppose the only option is then to phone and ask them. Do you still have letters with your case number on it?

But if you received a letter stating he was to pay nothing and you never contacted them after that to ask for a reassessment then the nil assessment will still have stood for all these years so I would doubt if there would be a tidy sum of money.

You could ask for a reassessment now but that would mean giving your address and possibly any new name you have and if you have given your child a new name then the child's name goes on the letters to the NRP.

The letters don't happen. For things to happen in the CSA then you need to keep on and on at them. To be honest, the fact that you never got in touch means your case probably went to the bottom of the pile.

You only get updates from the CSA if you pester for them!

They might still have his NI number on your old case. To be honest, that is the best bit of info they need.
