Lays are banned

Is it just a rumor or a truth that LAYS chips are banned as they have been added PIG FAT in these chips to make different flavors. Anyone Clarify

I'm not sure I am 100% getting this right, I recieved an email last week as I have a muslim friend, but it was my understanding that...

Lays contained E631 which can be generated in 3 different ways:

    1. It can be obtained from sardines (fish).
    2. It can be made from brewer yeast extract which is a by-product of beer making process.
    3. It can be extracted from pig meat.

If method #1 is used then it is Halal. If method #2 is used then it is not Haram but it is better to avoid it. However if method #3 is used then most certainly it is Haram.

However, the only Lays poduct to contain E631 is the Masala flavour

Lays have not said in which way the E631 in Lays Masala is generated, so a Muslim could not be certain if Halal or Haram and are best avoided

There is as far as I know no UK ban, but there is in Pakistan, however it would seem over the last week a great deal of boycotting has gone on in the area I live in where Lays were sold instead of Walkers

I always thought you couldn't buy Lays in the UK. I thought they were the same company as Walkers and Lays was the name used overseas?

I have only ever seen them abroad, and suspect that the OP is American as he would say crisps if he was English. Reminds me of a current ad on TV (refuse to recall exactly what for) calling a certain type of crisps chips - I will not buy them because of that!

Don't quite understand this, do you live in Pakistan that you know of this boycotting? As others have said I've never seen Lays sold in this country before, Europe and America yes, I rather like the big bags you can buy there.

Thanks for this link I see that is where the previous poster has quoted from, all very complicated for a bag of crisps, wish I had never opened the thread now.

No but I did recieve an email from a muslim friend that was forwarded to all their contacts, they are a strict muslim and to the muslim community the issue of whether Lays and other items are halal or haram is of concern.

The shops local to me do sell Lays as well as non uk coke etc at a cheaper price than Walkers and the uk coke, so whether or not the OP was spamming or concerned, it is of importance to some people.
