Maybe next time you see him tell him that you are very impressed that he is willing to join the frugal lifestyle like yourself and that if pensioners can do it why can't he! Let your Godson and his girlfriend know that you will enjoy sharing money saving tips with them once they move in.

Dr Bubb is a true genious.

He didn't just predict the crash, he was using the words 'credit crunch' and predicting that to be the cause. I recall threads of his in 2006 asking us to post signs of the comming credit crunch.

He also did some lovely yarns describing how many Americans would find themselves back in the 1930s, and indeed many now are.

and how many times did he predict the crunch?

how many times did he predict property falling, 2003, 2004, 2055, 2006 and 2007? he had to get it right at some point.

he's an inteligent guy but not a genius in any way.

Clearly it's a bad idea pobby.
The multiples are massive for them and as others have stated it's a surprise they can still get that kind of mortgage when eveyone else is saying how difficult it is. You need to make sure they get this message, but ultimately once you've told them it's their life and their mistake to make.

I'm surprised you needed to ask our advice though as you seem to be advice central for your family/circle of friends with a new thread about someone or other most months. Perhaps the people I know are luckier than most in the general population (?) and yours unluckier (?) cos you seem to have my share of unlucky/foolish stories! I hope it has turned out ok for all of them.

Do you know anyone doing ok?

I'm sure you've missed a few there JB. When I saw the thread I must admit I had a bit of a  moment and thought "Oh Lord, not another one of Pobby's 'friends and/or relatives' doing something financially idiotic!

I suspect these are just parables - like in the bible; stories that are not really supposed to factual, but are instead created as educational messages.

Perhaps they will all be compiled into a book called " The Book of Pobby", and in a couple of thousand years it will form the basis of a major religion?

Oh yes there are plenty more, but I thought I'd posted enough.
I am pleased to hear that they are all ok however. So, whilst it may appear they have been unlucky or foolish to start off with, they have had a change in their luck, which is good.
Who knows perhaps it is pobby's good advice (naturally gleaned from the brains in this forum) which has helped them out of their individual predicaments!

Indeed, or perhaps they just got on with it regardless and the world didn't end?

Pobby's 'God son' (note the way religion is already creeping in here ;)) could have found the girl of his dreams, they settle down in their lovely new home and both work hard to pay down that mortgage and build up savings. Sure they struggle, but everyone does when they first get a new home, but the struggle just brings them together even more. Eventually they make headway and thank God (or 'Pob' as he will come to be known) that they met, fell in love and bought a lovely house for themselves and their children to live in. :)

One thing that a friend taught me some time ago was to suggest that whatever they want to do now they simply wait 6 months. This has stood me in good stead with friends wanting me to invest in their hair-brained schemes and so on. It just stops me from rushing in to things, and yet 6 months seems just around the corner. It's amazing how many people have said there was a sure-fire investment which I had to go in with, I've said let me know how it's going in 6 months, and I never hear anything more.

Could it be a suggestion for your Godson?

Good suggestion Jen. DD, they are not parables but are real. I really hope that all turns out well for them and yes, I have had some very good advice from here.

For a kebab? I'll have lost the craving by then.

Sorry Pobby. My words of wisdom on topic. Young couple trapped in spiral on debt and despair. One way of looking at it. On the other hand might keep him on the straight and narrow, teach him a few lessons, and stop him being tempted by other things. A life of work and mostly low level misery is what the rest of have... why not him as well?
