Hi there. I have been self-employed since 1996 and have been meticulous about keeping records. I'm tidying up my office and would like to get rid of some of the files of old receipts, diaries etc etc. How long am I obliged to keep them?

The standard answer is 6 years. What I do is have 6 files with the paperwork for each tax year, then on April 6th I scan and shred the oldest. The scanning is just for peace of mind. I prefer the paperless office, and scanning is a wonderful solution.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?
