Selling Open-source software on eBay

Quick question for someone - I've noticed people on eBay selling compilations of open-source etc software on eBay.

Any idea what the legality of this is? (I'm talking about people selling a DVD-R in a case for maybe £5-£8, so it's a cost covering exercise plus a small profit)

I believe that if it's under GNU, you can. The only caveat being that you must supply the source free of charge if requested.

And a small appreciation to the authors would probably be welcome as well as it would encourage them to keep writing more software for you to sell ..

agreed the reason why people write, compile and debug open source software is to ensure that everyone has access to computer software which they may not be able to afford by going out and buying MS software.

peeople like you should make a donation to the open source sites so that they can keep their web sites running and help with their costs

at the end of the day wether you do the nice thing like this or dont is on your consience
