Hi, I am just about to leave my job as I have been bullied at work, it has not been possible to sort the problem and now I just want to go. If I leave voluntarily does that stop me claiming jobseekers allowance? thanks for any help

If you leave a job voluntarily you may be sanctioned from receiving JSA for up to 26 weeks.0

Thanks for that I did fear as much! I suppose there is some right of appeal if the job was making you ill etc...0

I imagine it depends on how ill and whether you have doctor's reports and all the details of the grievance procedures you've undergone at work. I doubt they'll just take your word for it!0

There are many threads on these boards dealing with the subject of constructive dismissal. Best of luck.0

You will need to put down all the reasons why you left and provide evidence of any meeting or witness statements to prove you were bullied if you applied for any other jobs during this time state the companies etc.. this information will be sent to a decision maker for them to look at, they may also write to your previous employer asking for their side. Once all the information is gathered a decision will be made and they may sanction your benefit from between 1 week up to a maximum of 26 weeks. The whole process can take around 4 - 6 weeks and if your are entitled to benefit in the mean time you will be paid untill the decision has been made. good luck x0

 Do not put up with the bullies at work. If you leave that's you giving up and they have won. Plus you may find it hard getting another job in the current climate and you may have lost your confidence. You have rights and your employer could get into a lot of trouble if they don't help you, so please don't leave your job and take a look at the following websites for advice (put 'www.' in front of them):

I left my work in September for the same reasons as you did.
I signed on in February because things were getting a little tight, I managed to get signed on, but keep receiving letters asking for more details. so be prepared to have to go into great detail.
it's a difficult decision for you to make, I was in a fortunate position when I left, but unfortunately in September the job market went to the wall so I'm a little stuck at the moment.0 -
Hi,
I quit my job for various reasons at the end of March. I signed on the next day and have just received my decision letter, I'm not receiving anything between now and 10 July!

I cant agree with the majority here because ive signed on at various points over the last 5 years and have NEVER been asked for details on whats happened at my job. Ive simply just said they were temporary or the contracts finished. No more questions asked. But its up to you. If you want to tell them the truth then expect to be treated as such.0

Do you always advocate people committing benefit fraud? Somebody could end up with a criminal record by following your foolish and dishonest advice.0
