Car Tax fine -Bailiffs

I have had a notice through my door that bailiffs are coming about unpaid Magistrates Court fine. I have rung the bailiffs, and they will only accept payment in full. I have rung the court and they have told me to deal with the bailiff.
The letter was wrongly addressed, with the wrong postcode on, so I assume that is why I have not heard anything previously.

There is little chance of anyone finding £400 worth of stuff in my house, which actually belongs to me, as most of any value has already been sold. However my son is a DJ and keeps all his equipment in my spare room, as he lives in shared accomodation. Can they take this? I can prove it is his and belongs to his business as it was paid for out of his business account.

I do have a car but it is not actually mine, I receive DLA so it is Motability Finance who actually own the car, I just keep it.

What do I do next? i have had not dealings with Bailiffs over fines, but have an idea they have greater powers than bailiffs chasing debt?

Don't let them in!!! Talk to them outside (locking the door behind you) - once they have been in they can come in again without your permission

Personally I would advise the bailiff calmly and politely that you will not under any circumstances allow them access to your property and tell them that you will talk to their office when they return the case. Then come to a payment arrangement asap!

Hope this helps, this is purely from personal experience and no doubt somebody more knowledgeable will be along soon

    Good luck :)

Take a look here also send a PM to Herbie21 ;)
Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional

It is important that you WRITE a letter to the bailiff company to advise them of your circumstances because from the information provided by you it would appear that your situation is "vulnerable" according to the National Standards for Enforcement Agents and the fine should be RETURNED back to the court.

If you send me a PM I will ensure that you have a template letter that you can send.

Thanks for these replies. I have not been able to comment before as one of the things that has happened is my poor old computer broke so never got replaced and can only log on occasionally.

I haven't heard anything for a while, despite writing to the Court. I thought they had to respond to correspondence within a timescale but I might have that wrong.
