It's OK if you know what you are looking for, but I wouldn't go clothes shopping there. I've bought some kitchen bits and shoes in there and a jacket by accident as my mum picked it up and it turned out to be just what I was looking for in a jacket!
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

Great stuff there, I bought really nice bras for only 3 quid each, leather shoes for £3, shoes from Sacha London-originally £50 for £11, hubbie bought really nice Adidas trainers, t-shirts, loads.
It is true, need to rummage through, I sometimes spend 1 hour in there and don't buy anything, depends on the stock and luck.
    Definetly my fav shop though!!!

I generally like TK Maxx, but have to be in the right mood to go in and often find it's down to luck and time rummaging to get good bargains.

I've had 'seven for all mankind', 'Earl' and 'diesel' jeans for less than £20 and find it good for kitchen stuff, like Le Creuset.

I have two fairly close to me but both always seem understaffed and often have to queue for lengthly periods to pay.

Fantastic for handbags and for homewares. Some good items to be had in clothes if you don't mind the jumble sale merchandising.

However, in my two local stores the customer service is so shockingly bad it is almost funny. At best it is disinterested at worst it is jawdroppingly rude. It is so consistently bad I can only think there is a really bad management/training issue there.

Their policy re charging for bags also really annoys me. I always bring my own bags to the supermarket but with TK Maxx you can't plan what you're going to buy. Do they seriously expect you to pitch up at one of their city centre stores with a big bag and a roll of bubble wrap just in case you buy a glass vase on impulse that day. And they charge 6p for a tiny, flimsy little bag when that would buy you a decent reusable one anywhere else. They flaunt their green ethics on this one but I think its just a cynical way of extracting maximum money from customers in a store where most purchases are unplanned. If they are going to sell, for example, large items of glassware, they should provide customers with some means of getting them home unscathed!

After every trip I swear I won't darken their doors again but sometimes the thought of those handbags just tempts me back.

My advice would be it is worth going for some good products you can't get anywhere else but brace yourself for a shopping experience even more unpleasant than IKEA!
They do have a detailed customer services survey on their website. I like to fill it in after every shop - I've never noted any improvement in my local store but it does help your blood pressure return to normal!

My favourite shop, although I don't often get clothes in there as they rarely have any in my size. I am too fat for designer gear and not fat enough for outsize!
  • Great for luxury toiletries and bits of make-up.

I love TK Maxx. I always call in there if I am hunting for something different for home or personal (shoes, clothing etc). Yesterday I came away with a beautiful duvet cover from Hobbs Home - £60 down to £25, 2 x matching oxford pillowcases - £12 down to £2.99 and a pair of Tommy Hilfiger summer jeans (2008 summer season) £95 down to £20 and I was thrilled as I only spent £50 and got superb stuff. I buy all my bedding from there as you get fantastic quality items for the same price as much more inferior stuff from regular shops. (But I shouldn't have told you all that, as there will be nothing left for me next time I go)

I have got some great bargains from TK Maxx in the past and particularly look for sportwear, trainers, bed stuff, cookware and toys.
I agree the queues are sometimes horrendous and it puts me off a bit!
