Concil Tax backdated money they owe me

Options
The year 2000 I purchased my first home and move into the house alone and have continued to live alone since that date. I have always been paying for full Council Tax and have never applied for a discount because pre 2000 I was living in my Nan's house but I wasn't down as living there legally ( I think!) . Will I be entitled to claim back Council Tax from 2000 to present date or will they come looking for money from me from pre 2000?

Please advise me money savers

In the legislation there is nothing to stop you asking for it backdated all the way , the legislation sets no time limit.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
