Need a new washing machine :-(

Washing machine ended up filled with smoke at the weekend and feel its probably time for a new one. Didn't even leave fags or lighter in it's reach :-)

Anyway, been looking around and seen lots of fairly bad reviews about 'common' ones like Hotpoint, Hoover and Indesit.

Was looking at German ones like Bosch and Miele but they seem so expensive although they do have longer warranties. Also looked at ISE but our local outlet according to the website can't get in contact with them which doesnt bode well!

In our local shop, they do a make called Statesman - which I've never heard of. It's £269 for the XT6 model. Thing about it is it comes with a 2 year parts and labour warranty and the shop said they've not had one back yet and it does sell quite well.

Problem is the web hasn't got a lot of info on them. Has anyone had any experience of them - good or bad?

My mum got a brand new Hotpoint 6 years ago and it's had to be fixed twice, so I wouldn't recommend them. Indesit are meant to be quite good though.

I'm an experienced appliance engineer and Hotpoint/Indesit are the same manufacturer (along with Creda, Cannon, Ariston and a few even lesser ones) and I would not own one since they became part of the Italian group - Merloni.

Haier is the cheapest mass produced washing machine from China, awful and very hard to get quality parts for. Beko, Turkish rubbish, parts are cheap - they are after a massive foothold in the European appliance market and are flooding it with cheap stuff to get there, cheap doesn't equal quality.

Who does that leave mentioned so far, oh yes, John Lewis. Ok, these are Zanussi appliances and out of all the above they are the best.

You definately get what you pay for (mostly) in the appliance world, and my advice is to plump for Bosch. Every time.
