Is this the right way to go.....

Hi there... me and the wife in a pickle.. we're trying to clear our debts down and hope to pay off at least one a month or partial if it's too high.. I've emailed my various creditors and asked them to hold off charges while I seek advice and to reply to me only by email...

this way I can keep track of things as I work from home for long periods of time... is there any reson they would refuse to answer my emails and continue to send mail to the house.?
I'm moving home shortly and I don't have a postal address they can use, as I don't want old mail going to the tenants of this house i'm leaving.

what is anyones take on this?

    Hi there,

First of all I'd recommend you complete an SOA (the link is at the top of these boards) so that we can give you informed advice on your situation.

As far as I'm aware your creditors aren't legally obliged to reply to you only by email. Certainly there is no obligation on them to hold charges.

When you move house you can change your address with each of your creditors, and you can also set up a forwarding address with the Post Office when you move (just to catch any stray letters coming through from companies you might have forgotten about).

    Hope that helps.

As someone who works in financial services (I know, I know!) you might find that they will not reply by email. We certainly aren't allowed to do so due to the comparative lack of security (How can you confirm it's the customer you're emailing etc etc)

I would second that the previous poster said - post up your SOA for us to have a look at and we will see if we can help.

will do... I'll gather details tonight.. it's more of a holding email until I get new address sorted so i can speak to them and arrange a more permanent payment plan. I guess something is better than nothing to these people? We're hoping the house move will free up some finances as we're downsizing, but we have a daughter in Uni so we need to make sure there's funds for her..

Good luck with the SOA - will pop back with comments when you've posted it up.

Where will you be staying when you move out? I'm sure you could talk with the Post Office and get them to temporarily change your forwarding address, then change it again when you move into somewhere more permanent.

Presume your daughter has access to student loans etc? Has she / would she check out the student finances section on MSE? My brother is at Uni and I know he loves the freebies board!
