Birthday ideas for a F1 maniac

Its my boyfriends birthday soon and I am thinking of buying him one of those driving experiences (single seater car) but don't know if they're any good. Has anyone been on one of these. I've heard that on some of them you only get a few minutes actual driving. Or does anyone have any other ideas of what i can buy him, he's a big big formula one fan.
Cheers

If you have deep pockets then a great racing day out is at palmer motorsport. They mostly do corporate days, but will accomodate individuals with their corporate clients I think. They have a variety of cars from off-road, fast road and single seater FPA's (faster than formula first/ford/vauxhall)
Otherwise the single-seat days at silverstone, brands hatch etc would be good, but not so much driving and variety of car.
If he hasn't been to a F1 race then tickets to silverstone are another option. However the stand prices are crazy money nowadays. You can get a reasonable view with general adminission tickets as long as you get their early (6am) and take a seat/food/waterproofs).0 -
If he's never been to an F1 race then that would be the thing to do.
If a raceday ticket is too pricey, consider going on the Saturday to watch the qualifying, or cheaper still the Friday to watch the practice. You wont see any racing on the Friday, but you will get to see and hear the spectacle that is Formula One. Also a lot fewer people so its easy to walk about and watch from different parts of the circuit. Also have a look at the trade stands, of which there are quite a few. Youre also likely to see more of the drivers out of their cars, if autograph hunting is your thing!
Good luck!0 -
It depends whereabouts you live but my husband and my dad have both been to the Three Sisters racing school for one of these days. It started with all the theory on how to approach bends, safety etc then they were taken round the course by the trainers in Subaru type fast cars to get the feel of the course.
Next they went round the course on their own in the single seater formula ford cars. They went REALLY slowly but they thought they were going dead fast :rotfl:. After loads of laps they had a race. It lasted a good few hours and they really enjoyed it. My hubby's booked in to do a rally day now and would totally recommend it.:smileyhea0 -

That's a good idea, because qualifying is pretty exciting this year. One might say more exciting than the race!0 -
Hi! I think buying a ticket for the F1 event would be the ultimate gift. You can get a reasonable priced ticket if you consider going to see race in europe and can also have a great mini break together. Last year when I was checking at the prices I found out that for about the same price of ticket in UK you can actually get to see a race and have a mini holiday :cool:0

Depends who he supports have you thought of a weekend in Scotland and a visit to David Coulthards museum?
Theres a cafe there and they are really friendly its run by his sister, even worth getting in touch and telling them its his birthday if you did go, my sister wrote a few years ago wishing DC the best for the F1 season explaining she was pregnant and she thought if he did too good she might have the baby early and DCs sister actually phoned her at home and wished her all the best with the baby from David :j
But if hes a schumacher fan not much help sorry0 -
My son's third birthday in on Monday and we got him a very nice red formula 1 racing car cake from Tescos- for about £10! That might be a nice 'extra' for him LOL!July Win: Nokia 58000

I treated my ex to one of these on his 40th birthday & he was wowed by it. He had a fabulous time & I'm sure his work mates got bored of him constantly talking about it.
If I remember rightly, if you skid off the track your time is up, but if you drive well with no mishaps you get a decent amount of track time.
They took photo's as well, which was a nice souvenier of the day.
I'd recommend it for a race fan.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Oh dear ! Please ignore my last post about going to Silverstone on the Friday or Saturday.
Bless them, they no longer sell tickets for the individual Friday or Saturday. You have to buy a ticket that covers you for all three days at the "bargain" price of £99 minimum !
What a rip off ! Its OK for people who live within easy travelling distance but for those of us who have to travel 3 hours + its not exactly cost effective.
The cheapest way to get a F1 fix is to go to one of the testing days at SIlverstone. 25-27th April is the next one and last time I went it was free to get in. You may find yourself sitting around for quite a while with nothing to see ( try to find out which of the days has the most teams entering), but you do get to see and hear an F1 car - and believe me you havent heard anything like it !!0
