Do you have access to a garden? We often had parties in our own garden, everything to hand, and easy to come up with a few games - the best one was get all the kids to burst balloons and the one to bring back the most of the burst balloons won. Also simple and cheap to hire a bouncy castle (but we didn't burst that one!). They are only young, things like that still thrill them at that age!!

How many are you thinking of having?
Obviously the British weather will have a massive bearing on the day so it would be a real shame to plan a great time outdoors and then for rain on the day to break the hearts of the kids.
 Am thinking of a new one:beer:

have you spoken to a local school? They often have large areas and can in some instances hire out equipment.

With the age of your children a local nursey may be able to help.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

I used to live around Manchester and always loved Heaton park great open spaces and the boating lake with kids play areas too. Southport was also a great day out with the kids too also parks and boating lake and a nice beach

If you have woods near you then you could plan a teddy bears picnic. We used long strings of bunting and sectioned off an area, put up a few of those pop up tents and laid down blankets. We had loads of fun playing games and having a nature trail. We hung ribbons from the trees and bought other toys/books to play with.
The woods we went to had quite a good covering of branches and leaves so it alomost covers from a bit of rain. I guess you could put a gazebo up if it is bad weather forecast.

The only downside is the toilet situation....!
  • If you have transport what about attractions in Derbyshire, Crich tramway museun, Chatsworth house and farm and Gullivers spring to mind, you could take a picnic. otherwise i'd go with a bbq in the garden. You could hire a bouncy castle.

Gullivers World, as you can take a picnic and leave it in the car till you want it and they stamp your hand to go and get it.

Also Crocky Trail is great for all ages with a path for buggies.
You can also use disposable bbqs , there are picnic tables and they do group rates.
