What would they rather have? Food on the table or Sky/Broadband? I think that you need to cover necessities first, a roof over your head, heating, food, water, gas, elec etc - Sky & Broadband are definately considered a luxury!! Sure, the children will moan - but why let them control your household? I'm only 25, but all we had in "my day" was 4 channels and teletext - and even that was restricted!! Could you post a SOA detailing your household income/outgoings & your debts - perhaps there is a way of saving without realising it.xx

i cannot believe you have pulled the ' in my days' quote out at your age ms london!!!!! lol but its true about the tv

"in my day" - a sure sign that our lightbulb moments have aged us through wisdom / common sense in someway? ;):D:p

ms_london has made some great points as usual. Personally, i'd keep the BB... i could NEVER go back to dial-up as life is far too short... but that's not to say that everyone who uses it shouldn't be paying for it. Your details are on the other page so can't refer back (did you post an SOA yet?) but if they're all users and you have 3 adult children (was it?) then why not split the bill each way and include it in the house keeping. They're old enough to pay their own way on everything they use.

I agree, ditch Sky... Freeview is a great alternative if you want more channels for next to nothing.

And if they don't like your decisions and cutbacks then remind them they can always move out and subscribe to SKY themselves once they're settled in their own place... ;)

I think your 24-year-old should be paying his way! I'd been living on my own for five years at that age!

    Newbie too.

Since Jan we had reviewed our financial situation, and are now in the final stages of moving mortgages (saving approx £1K a year and paying it off 5 years earlier). Cut down our Sky digital package by cancelling the movies approx £6/month and cancelling our multi-room package of £10/month. Trying to get my OH to agree to cancelling the sports channel, with out any luck. I am noting down secretly when he actually watches the sports channel to see if he will change his mind.

I am looking at changing our broadband provider but not sure how easy it is to do? can anyone help, on BT broadband at the moment £17.99/month.

Not wishing to go off the subject but we've gotta talk about something until Tony gets back with his SOA..... so... ;)

Lou06, £17.99 pcm for BB isn't that bad... do you have any download restrictions? For the same price i've got unlimited BB with Tesco: https://register.tesco.net/online

Not the fastest (tho i have no complaints) but reliable and without restriction.

As for SKY sports... does the local pub air it for free? If so it'll give him an excuse to spend some time away from "the missus" ;)
  • Hello all,
Thanks for all the common sense replies.
I shall have to work some to post a SOA, tot up all tesco/ lidl take!!

    I will be back ;0)

Dudleyboy, don't forget the added overheads of watching sport in a pub may be difficult to keep down to £40 in a month!! ;)
