Caramel Shortcake is on offer.... yummy. Time for a trip to LIDL I think. Digital scales for £4.99, wow that's a great price for them. I use cups for most of my baking etc but at £4.99...“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. I love caramel shortcake. My wife used to make it but I have no idea about baking myself. Thanks for pointing that out Smiley mum. I'll look out for it when I'm there.0

It's really good, digestive base to it. I'm not keen on caramel shortcake with the pastry base etc.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

It's got to be biscuit for me. I can't imagine it with pastry. :undecided Thanks for the recommendation smiley mum, I am looking forward to trying it. Actually my mouth is watering now. Do I have to wait for the 27th or do they have it in stock all of the time?0

Think it's in stock at 59p for 4 pieces now, instead of the usually 89p.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

The Lidl offers are regional...so while hermit_crab is enjoying the kitchen wotnots I have a load of golfing gear to tickle my fancy over here in N.Ireland:(:(, and that is to be followed by some manly diy tools (I've already got the full collection, don't need any more).
But now I want Caramel Shortcake...here's a recipe from the Mega Index. Looks quite easy too...
Caramel shortcake
Makes about 24 pieces
Ingredients
400g packet of digestive biscuits
125g / 4½ oz butter
100g / 4 oz soft light brown sugar
397g can condensed milk
200g / 7 oz cooking chocolate
200ml / 7 fl oz single cream (optional)
Method
Preheat oven to 200 C / 400 F / gas mark 6.
Bash up digestives into crumbs.
Melt 25g / 1 oz butter, mix well into crumbs.
Press mixture into tin (I use a 9 inch square tin).
Bake for 5 – 10 mins.
Melt remaining butter and sugar together.
Add condensed milk, stirring all the time until it looks like butterscotch.
Pour mixture over biscuit base.
Leave to cool.
Melt chocolate.
Mix with cream (optional).
Spread over caramel.
Leave to set.
Cut into squares.
Forget about your diet, enjoy!0 -
Oh my daughter made this at school today, we call it Millionaire's Shortbread and it was absolutely delicious. A little bit went a long way as it was very sweet being that I think she had the caramel layer larger than the biscuit layer0

Yes, that's what we call it too, here in N.Ireland. I've had it often (far too blumming often judging by the size of my buns)...it's got tasty shortbread, but no millionaire...aw well, tastes good all the same.0 -
I went in last friday and they had up 40% off frozen foods.
I got two frozen tuna steaks for 99p down from £1.65 bought a couple of packets. I was paying in morrisons £2.09 for two in the youngs range.
I am not sure how long the offer is on for. So you might like to check before travelling.
