Looking for ducks..

I'm looking for 2 female white Indian Runner ducks for the garden, kids have wanted ducks for a long time and now we are ready with secure area and lovely duck house. If we can't find runner we would settle for call ducks or similar but again white or as much white as possible..

Does anyone breed ducks or know when the poultry sales are? I know there is a sale near Castlewellan, sort of like a car boot sale for poultry but not sure of dates or exact location..

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it... We'd love our ducks soon, so we can enjoy them grow up over summer..

Many thanks
(waiting for the crispy duck references now LOL)

this is probably a very silly answer but the only one I can think of - have you tried contacting local farms - see were they get their ducks from? or if they could point you in the right direction?
Life is what you make it.

we have 11 ducks and 1 drake and were looking to get rid of some as we are overwhelmed with eggs, but they aren't white, they're mostly khaki campbell crosses (hence the multitude of eggs). Also have 6 goslings just hatched (my first ever incubator success) all 2 days old and supercute if you fancy it, they'll grow up to be white!

  • Thanks everyone, we've found a name and number for someone in Ballymena, hubby going to give him a call. After much reading today we are reconsidering our choice of runner duck, think maybe something less athletic LOL.. Just because, while we have space, they seem to like to run (obviously).

Thetope, what are Campbells like to own, friendly? We would like fairly young ones so the kids (16 & 11 yrs) can really bond and hope they become tame (ducks not kids!)..

    Thanks

Ours haven't been hand reared so aren't that tame... but they are fairly good natured and behave themselves quite well about going to bed. They'll also feed from your hand but are quite nervous and run away at sudden movements. I'm no expert, this is our first venture into poultry - but i have seen the difference between hand-reared geese and goose-reared geese - the hand reared are so much friendlier and you can pick them up and stroke them quite easily. They are very affectionate. I don't know whether it's possible to train the wilder ducks/geese to be handled but certainly hasn't worked with ours successfully despite our best efforts.
