Well a fixed rate will give you the best rate, but if you withdraw before the term, you'll (in most cases) lose a few months interest.
Best fixed rates here: http://www.moneyfacts.co.uk/money/savings/1/short-term-fixed-rate-bonds.aspx rates are pretty grim, split it up to keep within the 50K personal FSCS protection limit.0
