Car repair didn't work, what next?

Our Audi A4 had a problem and to save money we took it to an 'Audi specialist' garage rather than an Audi main dealer for repair.
They 'diagnosed' the problem and replaced a component today but driving it home I realised the problem was still there. I was inclined to take it straight back but OH thinks that rather than paying more for them to try and diagnose it again and keep trying to fix it we should cut our losses and take it to the main dealer as they might be better placed to figure out what is going on and fix it properly.

Any thoughts? which would you do?

surely the garage you took it to has a guarantee on there job and the work they've carried out on your car, take it back to them!

why should u have p*ssed into a hole and fork out Audi dealers rates if you can get the problem rectified by the garage you took it to.

...if your not told about a problem, you wouldnt be able to sort it out...is what i'd say.

take it back to the authorised garage you got the work done by, if you have to pay any costs, thats when you kick up a fuss-inconvenience, you havent got the time etc.

    hope this helps,
    Skiddy

p.s. what was the problem? which component did they change?

That was kind of the way I felt.

The turbo wasn't kicking in, it started off as an intermittant fault and then it stopped kicking in altogether. They said that a solenoid on the turbo needed replacing and this is what they did.

To be honest I wouldn't know as I only drive the car about once a month. OH has said a couple of times that he thought the clutch was on it's way out though.

I would contact the garage straight away.

Advise them that the fault is still occuring and obviously their original diagnosis was incorrect. I would ask them to look at the vehicle again and expect them to refund the cost of the original incorrect diagnosis.

The car has gone back to the garage today so we'll see what they say this time!

Fixing problems can be a tricky business, so expecting them to refund might be asking a bit too much.

We'll I'm glad I convinced him to take it back!

We've had a courtesy car since Thursday and it took them a while to figure out the cause of the problem but they got hold of the part and fixed it today.

We didn't complain or demand anything but they were extremely apologetic to me over the phone and completely unprompted thanked us for taking it back - saying that they'd rather that than damage their reputation. OH then went to collect the car and when he asked to pay they said that even though the second part needed was more expensive than the first there would be no charge as they had given the car back to us when it still had a problem!!
