Do you have a local school uniform shop?
They are a bit more expensive than the supermarkets and highstreet stores but the quality of the clothes is alot better and they last a lot longer. My local one had a load of school dresses in there last week, might be worth taking a look to see if you have one near you.0 -
Thanks i will have a look i don't mind paying more for cotton as dd will be in it all day so THANKYOU!!0

Please make sure it's a roomy one - I work as a teaching assistant and a lot of dresses in the shops are very tight fit which makes it very difficult changing for PE - it's a real struggle!0

i no i bought some shirts when my dd started school and they where very tight fitting and and the Tights were very tight fitting as well and both was form ADSA. I wouldn't mind my DD is 4 1/2 year old but is in age 3-4 year in normal clothes but in her school uniform she is in 5-60

Come the easter school holidays there will suddenly be loads of them in the shops. I've always found that BHS have the best quality ones but if you want cheapness best to go for Asda or Tescos. They only wear them a little while anyway until they are back in their usual uniform.

i found this too. i dont mind polyester, but every time dd takes the dress on and off, she gets static hair, and looks a right mess.
i have noticed the slim cut of dresses, and yes they do find it hard to get out of them
i ended up buying 100% cotton fabric and making my own, as i couldnt find anything that wasnt polyester. worked out about the same price as buying a ready-made one

My DD is 11 and I have tried various shops school dresses. Here is my verdict.
M&S. A line dress looks a nice slim fit but has plenty of buttons so easy to get on and off. Sizing a bit on the small side. I found buying 2 each year in a bit big size meant I could get 2 years wear out of it no problem. Lovely quality, washes well and needs no ironing if you hang on a coat hanger on the line. I sell them on afterwards for £3 each via local ads. I do try to buy them in the sale. Best price I've had is £3 brand new.
Tesco. More generous fit, wash badly, lose body and snag easily. Not worth the money.
Mothercare. More generous width fit but on the short side. Wash well but wouldn't last 2 years.
Debehnams. Excellent value for money when 2 for £14 and 20% off day (£11 for 2 age 11). Wash nicely but the zip front is too short and makes them difficult to get on and off no matter how big the fit.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

If you have a carboot have a rummage there - all of my 2 DDs school dresses have come from there at 50p each, and bhs 100% cotton. I know its a case of dropping on....but maybe you will!0

Ladybird in Woolworths are selling off all their Summer School Dresses, I picked up a load of them - they were all £3 each, really pretty style as well.Only 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!
