Need advice -
I want a new digial camera. Needs to have at least 5 megapixels. Not to fussed about anything else - screen size, colour etc. My 2.1 mp camera is a bit dated now!
Any recommendations would be appreciated - there are so many cameras available I really don't know where to start.
Thanks

Hi Scorchio, & welcome to the forum
It'll help if you tell us your budget.
This is what I'd think about when purchasing a d'cam if I was not on a very tight budget (I'm thinking around £200):
1. The best make/lens/image quality one can get for the money. One can get a fairly good idea about this (& the points below) by reading the free online independent/professional reviews.
2. Point-and-shoot (I'm still a beginner!) with preset modes & some manual control (like 4-15 sec exposure times for certain night scenes).
3. High pixel rating - the higher the better (although not that important if one isn't going to print enlargements to A3/poster size or above). Here my preference would be for the better make/lens/image quality.
4. A minimum of 3x Optical zoom & 3x Digital zoom - depends on your need for these features. Most 'mid-priced' cameras nowadays will have these specs & more anyway.
5. Lowest 'shutter lag' one can get for the money (more info & a list). Not that important if fast moving objects are not going to be the main pictures taken (there are a few tricks for reducing this - see the 1st link).
6. Best recycling times - basically, time taken from one shot to the next (unfortunately, with most d'cams, this is not as quick as your finger can continuously press the button!).
7. A camera that's good to reasonably good in low-light conditions. Most d'cams are not very good with focussing in low light, & the pics may also be darker than the original light they were taken in (can be corrected to some extent with software manipulation). There are some models (even under £200) that are better in low light than others.
8. How much extra am I willing to spend on a case, extra memory (some types are dearer than others), charger+rechargeable batteries, tripod, etc, OR are these included in the price?
Keep an eye on this d'cam post - if you're on a tight budget & not too fussy, one of them could do. G0 -
Hiya
I bought myself a Samsung Digimax V700 last year, really pleased with it, rechargable battery, 5+ mega pixels, optical and digital zoom etc. Just got back from the Maldives and all my photo's were perfect, you can also video record on it. Got a great deal from boots.com.We do not inherit the earth from our fathers, we borrow it from our grandchildren0
