One of my favourite statistics is that in the USA, plastic flamingos outnumber real ones.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Wow, that has gone straight in at number 1 on my newly minted list of favourite statistics, too.
Amazing.
I've never even seen a plastic flamingo.
Who has them? Where? Why?
Please tell us more....0 -

Teehee, as they will in our house. (I hope, DH did also wonder if flamingo eggs were edible and whether you needed a licence to keep them )0 -
That is so mysterious. You have them too?
Where can I get them? Bruno was so July 2009. Clearly, plastic flamingoes are August 2009.0 -

People have them as a kitch design statement, instead of a heron to pretect their gold fish. DH wants them to put by a large pond (or in his imagination a lake he will one day own). We both have a natural failing for kitch, which I fight off recognising it as a style failure, but DH relishes in with glee at his visual expression of humour.
I spent a lot of my childhood in states where people really did kitch as a serious statement, not for kitch value. It colours ones opinion of the validity of kitch as a modern style statement when your slightly seedy neighbours were the owners of lifesize santa sleighs with moving deer.0 -

People have herons to protect their fish?
Our poor fish, unprotected in their little tank against that nasty world. No great bird watching over them.
This is freaking me out.
It's like discovering everyone else eats marmite on their cereal or something. I just had no idea.
I mean, hey, I like kitch as much as the next woman in her 30's, but this is all news to me.0 -

Fish in PONDS! The real herons are spooked by the bold plastic one, and think its his pond/supper so steer clear
Carolt, are you saying you've never had marmite on your cereal?
My neices like marmite with peanut butter sandwhiches (yuck) but I like it under cheese on toast. And baked beans on toast.0 -
