Official Microsoft way to uninstall IE8 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/957700
"When you remove Internet Explorer 8, your earlier version of Internet Explorer is restored with your customizations (such as add-ins, Favorites, and your home page)."0 -
Well yeah, I think Vista is rubbish as well. It keeps crashing. Also, I got an update to IE 8, but now every time I go to my hotmail the whole thing crashes. I had to install Firefox just to view my emails. Anyone have any ideas on how I can go back to IE 7? I looked on the microsoft website but couldn't find anything.
Why do you want to go back to Explorer? Firefox is MILES better any day - and there are loads of really useful plugins/addons that you can use if you want to. In fact, Micro$haft is starting to copy features from Firefox because it is so superior, lol!"Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience." Anon.0 -
It's not out until the end of next year I think, this is a preview! Sorry to say I think Vista is rubbish compared to XP!! Not managed to download Windows 7 myself as it is a work laptop and they wont let me!!
My Dad has and says it's great.
It will be out before the end of this year. Acer have said they're releasing a laptop with it on in October I think, so I would imagine it will be realeased in around September time, in time for the 'back to school' market.
It is much better than vista and also much more secure and speedy than XP.
It's not worth installing this unless you're comfortable installing a new system and doing all the work that involves, like backing up and restoring documents & programs. It uses the same drivers as Vista, which means that all hardware should work properly. If you remember, that was the main problem with Vista, that drivers did not work. Incidently this was not exactly Microsoft's fault as it's the hardward manufacturers themselves that make them. Unlucky.
I'm not sure why you'd want to use IE rather than firefox anyway, but personal preference I suppose.0 -

Personal preference on my husband's part. I'm not bothered either way, but he said he doesn't like firefox and certainly doesn't like ie 8.
Thanks to everyone for the help/advice and links :money:0 -

Not sure this is wise. Microsoft have a policy of stopping any maintenance on their products once they are two versions old, so right now the only supported versions are Vista and XP, with support for 2000, ME and 98 dropped. When 7 comes out XP will be dropped.
What does this mean for you? No more security patches, so if a vulnerability is found in XP (and I assure you, this will happen) then people on the internet, or indeed automated viruses and worms, will be able to exploit it to get onto your system and do pretty much whatever they want.
The problem is bad enough now with XP boxes that don't have updates turned on, not to mention the number of Win98 boxes still out there in people's homes. I really hope MS will grant an extension to XP support due to the short life of Vista (similar to what happened with 98 after the complete disaster that was ME) but there is no guarantee at this stage.0 -
Should be OK to use XP for the time being if you don't want a RC on your machine. I have to say that this is the most stable RC ever though. (Except maybe a "hello world" RC...)
Anyway, this is also a great way to get Windows if you use a Mac. Download this, and then either use bootcamp or 'VirtualBox' from Sun www.virtualbox.org and you have Windows for a year, completely free!0 -
Is there some way of nominating this and perhaps Virtual Box to go onto the Free Software page? Definitely worth a mention I'd say.Personal preference on my husband's part. I'm not bothered either way, but he said he doesn't like firefox and certainly doesn't like ie 8.

Has he tried using a different theme on firefox, such as https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4129
It changes the way it looks so it's more like IE. I thought IE8 looks quite similar to IE7? Would always recommend running the latest browser, it's just going to be more secure.0 -
This definately shouldn't go in the Free Software page. It's not free software. It's pre-release software that MS are asking developers (with a very loose definition of developer, to maximise testing) to test for them before it is released. They are not providing support for it, and anyone trying to upgrade, or go back if it all doesn't work out, will be sorely disappointed. For geeks only. And please no-one mention Google's eternal Beta software!0
