I had to book direct with Stena this year as using Tesco vouchers .... £326 for car 2 adults and 3 children for July!!! Thankfully most of cost covered by vouchers.

V780 only works for some crossings. If you enter the code you get prices like a hundred billion times more than the normal price, then you'll see one option on one crossing each day at the discounted price. The problem is that if you book without the code you will find some of the other options are actually cheaper than the "discounted" price.

As has already been mentioned the best discounts seem to be had by buying through an agent. If you can't do that try buying direct, but try all the companies and all the sailings to find the bargains. Like any other form of transport, if you're willing to sail a few hours earlier or later you can save a chunk.
