the time has come to decorate our living room but we are both useless at papering and wanted to get someone in, but have no idea what they would charge. I would imagine that they charge by the roll? Does anyone know what I would expect to pay? It would even be a day's work as we only want one wall done but it's a tricky one with a shaped fireplace etc. thanks in advance. also any recommendations for newtownabbey area would be great!

as far as I remember I was charged £12/roll about 10 years ago. As you only have one wall that price could increase a lot. I had 7 rolls to wallpaper and he was finished in 4-5hrs. Hope that helps!

If there is a lot of cutting needing to be done its obviously going to take more time and hence be more expensive than a straight wall with no obstacles on a quote per roll
  • Probably about £150 per days work I would say was reasonable. You could probably get around 10 rolls done in that length of time.

That works out at an annual salary of £34,500 for a 5 day week taking 4 weeks holidays and 10 bank holidays. I think I'm in the wrong profession!
  • You tried getting a plumber or electrician? From my experience, there aren't many people who'll hang wallpaper these days - everyone just paints!

I'm lucky then that I can do my own then. My ex is a decorator and I always wallpapered while he did the painting. ;)

Seriously though, maybe I'm in the minority here and no insult to anyone intended, but surely you need qualifications to be a plumber or electrician but not to be a decorator.

Also it depends on what sort of paper it is!! If it has a pattern then it is a much harder job. If it is just plain paper then any idiot could do it so you need not pay a fortune.
    Always overestimating...
