Best price on Shreddies?

My hoard can go through them at a rate of knots (we're talking 2 big boxes a week if I don't keep an eye on them), so I generally buy them on special and stock up.

Our last supply has run out, so I wondered if there were any deals out there - checked on mysupermarket, but there's only Tesco knocking a measly 16p off a big box - not good enough for a stock up - but I know the smaller stores sometimes have deals too.

And no - I've tried downshifting - and it's the only cereal it hasn't worked on - even I can tell the difference :(

I eat Shreddies by the boxful too (i'm on SW and they are my cereal of choice!). I have switched to the Tesco or Aldi version as they are much cheaper but taste the same in my opinion. Can you try and trick yourself into thinking own-brand are actual ones?!

  • my son won' eat anything but shreddies for breakfast, recently switched to Asda's own and he hasn't complained so might be worth a try.

I mixed Tescos own version with some shreddies and gradually did it until we were all used to the Tesco ones.

Yeah I had to make the change to own brand ones a while back. I get through a big box in a few days, and at more than twice the price of own brand ones, Shreddies are hard to justify! You don't notice the difference after a while, it's only when you try shreddies again that you remember that they're different!

Try putting some own brand ones into a shreddies box, or mixing them as kjmtidea suggested, you might be lucky and get away with it!

This could have been written for our family, always stock up when on offer as you can usually get 500g for £1 or 750g for £1.50. Annoyed that I didn't get more last time Tesco were doing 750g for £1, I only bought 12 (1 case) as space was a bit limited at the time. Tried Morrisons own and they were a disaster, living off Lidl own/Waitrose own - I could swear these two are the same but nothing tastes like real Shreddies. I've tried the smaller chains like Co-op can't find anything, some shops do 50% extra free (750g for 500g price) but looking at the price label they are at the same price you would pay for 750g in the big Supermarkets so are a con.
That poor Tesco offer ends on the 19th so hoping a better one is coming.

    Thanks for all your posts.

I've tried all the tricks with the own-brand versions - doesn't work. It is the only cereal we buy branded though (unless there's a good offer on kellogs etc).

Firespire - normally Sainsburys will match/beat a Tesco offer on Nestle, but not this time - as you say, hopefully there's better to come.

I think if I can't put up with the substitutes any longer, I will try the suggested mixing technique to "eke out" an expensive box of Shreddies with the cheaper own brands. Usually I love the store brands and often prefer them but with Shreddies they just can't be matched in my opinon.
  • Iceland sometimes do offers on shreddies. Sainsbury's version quite good.
