Wassabi. How do you eat yours?

Last time I was at the Chinese Supermarket, I couldn't resist picking up a tube of wassabi.

It's been in the cupboard a few weeks now, and I'm worried it'll stay unused, and so am looking for inspiration.

I don't plan on making sushi any time soon :rotfl:

I thought maybe I could use it in place of mustard on ham butties, and possibly in mash potato (though it may go green ).

Does anyone here use it, and if so what for?

Funny enough I had some today on sushi, but I would have thought you could have it with almost anything, as you would mustard, as you said cold meats, sausages, you lucky thing I love it, and cant get hold of it round here, enjoy xx

Wassabi is a type of horseradish, so is great with beef or mackerel :D DH brings back ferocious wassabi-covered nuts from his travels in the far east - delicious :T

At Loch Fyne they serve smoked salmon with soy and wasabi :)
You can get the nuts in H&B but they're not so good... my local market has nicer ones :) I'm still looking for the spicy pea things you get in Nandos!

I love wasabi peas- soooo tasty and moreish! I usually buy the Kasugai variety, but there's recipe here if you fancy trying it - I can't vouch for it myself, unfortunately.

You can water it down with a little water and a pinch of sugar (and some sake if you have it) to make a dressing for green vegetables or salad. It's lovely in a marinade for chicken or fish (salmon or cod especially), and surprisingly good with mashed potatoes!

Oooh I love wasabi! Got a beef roast today so might buy a tube in place of horseradish, although I love HR it's not hot enough for me! Thanks for the inspiration (probably not inspired you though lol :rotfl:)
