there are a few recipes i want to try that include pitted black olives but i can only see them canned in brine. as with tuna, i dont like the brine taste that you get. can you buy these olives in something else, like you can get tuna in oil or water? thanx

    Hi want2bmortgage3

You can buy black olives marinated in olive oil from here

Or check out www.mysupermarket.co.uk That website shows ocado, sainsbury's and tesco selling Crespo pitted dry black olives.

I'll move this over to the Grocery and food shopping board to see if you can get more replies.

  • the fresh deli counter is the best place to get olives from, in asda they are generally near the fresh fish and pizza.

Health food stores also tend to sell them in other things as well.

I have tried loads of different black olives in an attempt to find ones that don't have that sharp vinegary taste.
The best I have found so far are the Tesco A La Grecque olives in sachets. They are coated in olive oil and thyme and taste almost as nice as the ones my mother in law brings over from Nice.

If I see them reduced or on offer, I rinse and drain the ones in brine, then return them to the clean jar and cover with olive oil. Leave for a few days before using. They are much nicer. You can add additional flavourings e.g. garlic, sprigs of fresh thyme or oregano, strips of lemon peel.
