I would strongly suggest using a local face-to-face broker who, dependant on your situation, could, depending on other factors, be able to "pursuade" a status prime lender to accomodate you, and therefore get you the best T&C's.

If they cannot- then at least you know.

I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.
I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.
Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far!

If it is only missed CC payments and only missed (i.e. you paid but a couple of days late) then i suspect you are don't actually a bad credit rating, you just need to make sure the details are declared with your lender before the lender spots them turn up. As a general rule that can all be explained away.

You might not need the charm of the broker, but equally i am sure that if you are honest with the broker they will be able to sort you out as well.

Missed/late payments can indeed lead you to have a bad credit rating.

As Stan says above, a good broker can work within the constarints of a good prime lender to make sure a mortgage can be agreed on standard rates if it is at all possible
