I wanna get my car MOTd but don't have current MOT cert

Hi,

We bought a second hand car in April last year. Tax disc was up till end of March 2006 so we have booked in to have the MOT done this Wednesday.

However, I looked out the previous MOT certificate to take with me, and have just found out that it ran out in November 2005 icon11.gif I am horrified and am in a panic now as to what to do.

Do we have to produce the previous MOT certificate in order to get a new one? Are we in any trouble? This was completely accidental I would never not get my MOT or service done on time and I'm really shocked at finding this. I guess you may say I should have checked the certificate before but I thought that tax and MOT were once a year and so I cannot understand how it is possible that they have gotten out of sync?

Any suggestions anyone on what we should do - the MOT is booked for this Wednesday?

Thanks.

    Hi,

I have never needed to show my previous MOT cert, so you will be fine taking it there without the old one. As for being in trouble, that i am not sure, all MOT's are to be computerised and held centrally so it all depends if the last MOT was on the new style paper (more like an A4 sheet of paper now). if its on an old style one i don't think there is much worry about it.

    JWVOODOO,

Thanks for replying. I've always been asked for my previous certificate before, but perhaps I could say I've lost it? Not really sure what's the best thing to do.

It's not on an A4 piece of paper no, it's on a green piece of paper about half the size of A4 if that makes any difference ?

No you don't need your previous certificate. That's only needed when you go for the MOT up to a month before the last one expires and you can then have the new one run from the expiry date of the old one.

I've not been asked for mine the last few times, shame really I found out afterwards I'd taken it in a month early - not a good example of a moneysaver!!!!
