Sainsbury’s Bank
Hi
I have a personnel loan with Sainsbury’s Bank. In April I changed banks and my new bank took all my direct debits and arranged for them too come out of my new account.
My new bank is the Alliance and Leicester. They contacted Sainsbury’s on the 20/04/09 and again on the 27/04/09 with the new direct debit details. The direct debit comes out of my account on the 30th of every month, so when Sainsbury’s changed the details it was going to be late, as they said it takes 8 working days. I contacted Sainsbury’s on the 29th and they said if the direct debit did not come out of your old or new account ring to arrange payment, which I did on the 02/05/09 and paid by debit card. I was then told by the adviser that there would be a late payment charge and that it would affect my credit score. I totally disagree with this, my argument being that Sainsbury’s were notified on 20/04/09 and started to change the direct debit over, and they could see that the payment was due on the 30/04/09 so it could not be set up in time, but they did nothing. They could have notified me or took the payment from the old bank where the direct debit was still set up. Then set up the new direct debit to come out the following month. I don’t see why my credit score should be affected by this when I have done nothing wrong. I have never missed a payment before and I have a very good credit rating. Sainsburys said its my fault and just give me address to write to if I what to take this further which I have, not had any response. Any advice on this.
Thanks Gordon
