Last year I found it was cheaper to buy asda smartprice pint bottles than it was to buy bigger quantities anywhere locally - I used it for chutneys and pickling beetroot and it was fine. Otherwise I guess a catering suppliers/wholesalers - costco, makro, etc, or maybe even an asian supermarket may be able to oblige.0

thanks for your ideas; funnily enough I was just looking at the pint bottles in ASDA yesterday where I got some large kilner jars for £1.00 each. I had'nt thought of going to the fish and chip shop. nice one!
thanks again:T0 -
You have to make sure the acidity is 5% or over. Whatever you are pickling may spoil otherwise.
It is generally printed on the bottles0 -
I'll move this thread to the Old Style Board, you'll get some more advice there0

Go to your local fish and chip shop. Chip shops buy in the pure extract and dilute it with water. I'm sure if you had your own container they would mix you a gallon very cheaply.
Some chip shops don't use vinegar but a similar-tasting cheap substitute so, if you want to go this way, make sure it is proper vinegar.0
