Can't ID myself!

I am currently going after Natwest for my charges and need to open another bank account in case they close it. I just a basic account not bothered about debit card or anything really but s/o and dd's would be nice.

However I have a problem I do not have a passport, drivers lisence or anything with a photo on it, we do get benefits but non if it is in my name (except the ones from Inland Rev and HMRC and banks say they can only take ones from BA or DWP) and to top it off dh has just started a job so its not as I can get a letter from DWP to say I am on DH's claim!

Has anyone else encountered this? Are there any banks that take different forms of id??? I'm stuck! LOL!

  • I haven't got a drivers license or passport either, I've opened a few accounts with just my national insurance card (even though it says on the back that it's not ID, they accept it!).

I don't have one of those either, well I did until I left it on the radiator and it started melting! Maybe I can get a replacement? I don't know why they can't take my Child Benefit or Tax Credits letters as proof, they are from the Inland Revenue!! Crikey this is hard work you know!

Ask Inland Revenue for a copy of your tax coding letter - this is acceptable for many banks.
Your current Nat West bank statement will confirm address.
    Sorted.

NI number is no longer sufficient. Nor or P45/P60. Inland revenue tax notification is about the easiest thing to supply if you dont have passport or driving licence.

IR Tax Notification? Do I ring my tax office for this and is this the same as a 'Coding Notice'??? I know nothing about Tax! LOL!

    Yes!
Be careful around this time of year as the letter has to be for the current financial year. So after April 6th you will need a letter for tax year 2006/07.
Please bear in mind that IR take up to 10 working days to supply these letters.

Photo/Signature ID isnt the only ones acceptable for name ID
    -Tax Coding (Not P45/P60)
-Original Benefit letters (eg incapacity, tax credits, job seekers etc as long as they are dated within 12months old)
    -NHS Medical Cards
    -Blue Disabled badges

cant remember anymore-there are lots more just say to the bank you dont have the primary/preferred ID from their list, what is on their secondary list.
  • Military ID and Police Warrant Cards too :D :P
