6 weeks to go

Hello everyone,
Apologies for being away so long. Lots of new people here, and lots of discharges (ahem) from old friends, and, gosh, Dalip on a lilo! (Happy birthday, lovely.)
We're just 6 weeks from AD now, trying not to get too nervous about unforeseen hitches, and have been trying to turn our employment prospects around. It's been very quiet until recently. Our old house (vol repo) is under offer. No correspondence from Billy's OR or my Trustee. (Still waiting to hear whether our IPAs will be reduced in line with Billy's reduced hours.) Then a couple of weeks ago, we had a bill from the local council for the council tax on our old place from May 2008 to the end of the financial year, and in advance for the current year! (Cue much churning of stomach.)
I wrote to the council explaining that we had left the property last May, had surrendered the keys in June, and reminded them that they had told us we would have six months free of council tax while the property was empty. (nb We are up to date with CT payments on our current home.) I've just received a letter in response: they say they have done a land registry search and that as we are still registered as the owners of the property (!) we will be liable for CT until it is sold unless we can get a letter from the bank confirming the date that they took possession. Has anyone else been through this? I'd really welcome any advice/experience. They've put a two month hold on the bill while we try to sort this out.
Oh, and guess who phoned Billy at the work the other day? The secured loan people. Hadn't heard from them for many months....
Many thanks in advance
Lily
ps don't know what the offer on our old place is but it's been advertised at £70k less than it was valued this time last year....

Hi Lily & Billy
Great to `see` you.....can`t believe its only 6 weeks to go !!
I am sure the council tax will be sorted. I had similar query & was assured that once repo takes place then there is no CT liability on the previous owner. Total liability will fall on the lender....obviously they will then add that to the final neg equity figure anyway.
It feels very odd seeing your house marketed at a lower figure but you need to tell youself that it is no longer your property & luckily you will not be facing the shortfall bill.
Funnily enough my SL people called me today & yesterday...I think that as the property market seems to be moving again they are picking up their activity.
Take care, Angiexx0 -
Hi Lily and Billy! Nice to hear from you! I hope the council tax thingy gets sorted out for you and it all goes well until your AD. Best wishes and take care.

Hi Lily - I've missed your red shoes! I hope you get your council tax and IPA sorted out. 6 weeks isn't long to go. I got my AD about 6 weeks ago. You and Billy can join the Full Term Club for people who didn't get AD.

Hi Lily,
Good to hear from you again. Hope you're coping with the tail end of BR, I found that last little stretch very stressful, incase they pullled something out of the bag at the last minute.
Hope you get your CT prob sorted.

Thanks everyone! I guess there's nothing else I can do but make a rather embarrassing call to the bank and ask for confirmation of the repossession. They must have done it, because if we didn't put the house up for sale, who did?
FYP, it's a distinguished club and I will be happy to become a member. Angel, I'm glad to hear your hunch about SL and the property market. I wondered whether the fact that there had been an offer on the house was what made them call but perhaps it's just something they do as a matter of course when the bankruptcy period is about to end. I do find it odd that we're still on the land registry. The only thing we heard in regard to this was that a "restriction" was being placed on the property by my trustee, which I'm assuming is legalese for "our clients want their share of the money".
Peachy, what an avatar! And no fuzz! Yes, it's odd how edgy the final leg feels after months of feeling reasonably clear-headed - as though something's about to bite me, on the bum or elsewhere. I had put it down to the "this time last year" feelings.
Donna, I think of you everytime I see you on TV! Shadow, we'll be beating you to it by 24 hours - unless something HORRID happens - but will delay official celebrations until you catch up, ok? And Lisa, congratulations on the first three years of motherhood. I always think it should be *us* getting presents on their birthdays.
