My situation was very much like that of the original poster...
Before I discovered this site I was planning on getting a 125% mortgage and paying off debts.. However, after 'listening' to the people on this forum I have decided to put everything I have into paying off debts this year..
I have a part time job and OH is doing any freelance work he can so that we can pay our debts as quickly as possible.. Although, it can be a bit depressing it makes it easier because the end is in sight. We are hoping to be debt free by November this year, all going well!
We will then think about buying a house, be it saving for a small deposit or geting a 100% mortgage.
Couldn't you try and pay more every months to get rid of the debts quicker too? I know everyone is not the same just an option you may not have thought about.
