Hi.
I am having real trouble with the csa! I claimed after i separated from my husband a couple of years ago. He has problems and so wasn't working all the time but i kept the csa updated as much as i could. Basically, i have never had a letter or any contact from them at all. Everytime i ring i am told someone will look into it and ring me back but no one does.

I contacted them in March because i had details of a new employer and again, heard nothing back. I rang them back last week and was told nothing had been done since my last phone call. When i asked why, i was told "I have no idea".

Despite this, the man i spoke to seemed helpful and told me that as this had been going on for so long, he was going to contact the employer directly straight away. AGAIN, i have heard nothing. I have just rung them again and have been told that they need to look into it and will ring me back. You reckon???

As a starting point at least, only contact them via letter and/or email from now on & keep copies of everything you send & receive from the CSA.
This is no guarantee that they will get off their ar##s & start doing things properly, but at least you'll have evidence of their incompetence should you wish to put in a claim for compensation at a later date.
They can easily deny having any telephone conversation with you & there appears to be nothing you can do about it.

    Fully agree with Donedoingdebt
This seems to happen regularly regarding phone calls to the csa

    Stop Phoning!
    Start writing!
Send your letters by recorded delivery only!
Check using the Royal Mail's website that your letters are received by the csa!
    Keep copies of everything!

Better still contact your MP. Speak to their assistant, explain the situation, tell them to contact the CSA via Parliamentary hotline to get your case moving.

Complain via MP and all correspondence should then go through MP to establish a paper trail.

This is also save you lots of headaches/migraines as they are very frequent when dealing with the CSA. Even RD letters go 'missing'.

Hi. Thanks for the replies. It seems my case was never assigned to a case worker(!) and that was why nothing was done. They have now sent out letters and hopefully i will hear within the next few weeks. Unfortunately, my ex has said he will not back date any payments and has said he will see me in court, so i have a feeling this will be going on for a while yet.

  • Hi Fattyrael, from what I gather, your ex-husband can say he won't backdate payments, etc etc.

At the end of the day, if it is money he owes, my bet is on the fact that he will be MADE to pay up.

Good luck. (I've had a very similar situation, but now have gone to complaints via my MP and things are moving)

That depends on whether the CSA ever sent him a MEF to complete. If they didn't then they won't be able to backdate the case. however, if this is the case, I would be making a formal complaint and asking for compensation for the loss of maintenance that they have caused due to their lack of action.
