i tried to claim for a missold endowment with my mortgage but was refused on the grounds i left too long between letters(think it was 2 months but not sure).Is there any way i can get my money back as the advisor told me i can only try to claim once

You only get one bite of the cherry.
You get six months after the complaint outcome to pursue it further if you wish. After that 6 months, its case closed and cannot be re-opened unless you have good grounds for doing so. (which typically means, you were hospitalised or you have now found new significant evidence to support your claims).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
