Homebuying Solicitor Advice
mortgage-confused
Me and my girlfriend are planning to buy our first home in the next few weeks. We've found the house we want on a private sale and have had an agreement on the mortgage we require.
We've been speaking to the sellers today and they've advised us that they are represented by the same solicitors we were planning to use. My question really is where do we stand with this? Do we need to use another company or are we able to use the same company but use different solicitors within the same company, or even are we able to use the same solicitor?

If you do use the same company you need to use a different solicitor to avoid a conflict of interest.
I wouldn't contemplate using the same company as the vendor personally.
If you have an independent solicitor, he will chase the vendor's solicitor up if they are dragging their heels on things.
I've had one experience of using the same company as the vendor back when I was a ftb so knew no better. They were absolutely useless. They really dragged things out, when we'd all expected it all to go through a heck of a lot quicker than it did.
Since then I've used a solicitor's practice that has been acting only for me.
Congratulations on the house purchase & hope it all goes through smoothly. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
If you are both existing clients of the sols then shouldnt be a problem. A quick call to the sols in question should give you the answer. Good luckI love this site :beer:0
