Anyone any idea what LDS standards are and why they are so influential?
I have to say, I've been researching dresses for my daughter for just over 8 months now and am amazed by how similar lots of dresses are and yet designers bleat about copyright etc. I can go to at least 3 or 4 designer sites and pick out dresses that are almost identical, strapless boned crystal detail on top, pleats on corset top down to skirt etc. etc. where's the individuality gone?
I do know that some are shown on websites as strapless but do come with spaghetti straps or cap sleeves or bolero/shrug jackets (usually at extra cost of course!).0 -

Ah, explains a lot! I would assume most religious buildings would have some kind of 'dress code' such as covered shoulders/arms etc.

I had a strapless dress. But it completely covered the bits it should - no cleavage at all on show and made to fit me so no chance of it falling (I did test it thoroughly). I had a stole/wrap type thing to cover the shoulders during the ceremony.
I did see some shocking ones when trying on dresses though, midriff sections completely bare, seriously short skirts etc. Each to their own really.
And I don't have any tattoos at all.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

Then again, I stand firm in my refusal to wear a dress anyway - what I want is a nice ivory coloured pair of wide leg trousers and a nice top that covers the grotty bits of my arms (or Evans to do the one I've got my eye on in my flipping size... or me to drop into one of the sizes they DO do).
My parents got married in the late 1950's - and my mum, who is lovely looking, but quiet and unassuming wore a simple white jersey-knit top - like a cardigan, really, but more elegant than the word sounds! - and simple white trousers. She looks beautiful in the photos. And happy too!Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
I do think generally the strapless, boned bodice style dresses are very beautiful, not vulgar at all. I've got my eye on a strapless one, I wouldn't have thought I'd like that style but I think a lot of them are gorgeous and not revealing as they don't expose boobage at all!
I have always made a purposeful decision not to have a tattoo because I've always said how I hate the thought of wearing a beautiful dress on my wedding day and then having tattoos spoiling that. And I'm not against tattoos per se, but for me they don't figure in my photos of me on my wedding day in the dress I picked out to wear. No offence intended to those with visible tattoos - I'm in the minority in my friends as being one who doesn't have one for this very reason!Dealing with my debts!Currently overpaying Virgin cc -balance Jan 2010 @ 1985.65Now @ 703.63

When I was a kid I always wanted to wear a lovely cream trouser suit but funnily enough as iv got older ive changed my mind and want to wear a gorgeous dress.
The dress that iv seen on landys website has little sleeves, iv got no tatoos (coz i dont like pain lol) but have got flabby arms but they dont bother me, I just dont really want a strapless dress. I do like a bit of clevage tho so want a dress that shows a bit of boob, not to much tho.0 -
It's all about supply and demand. Bridalwear designers will supply what people want. It is the fashion at the mo to have strapless, boned and embroidered detail, just like it was fashion to have puff balls and frills in the 80s. I think those dresses were absolutely hideous, but times and fashions change.
It's all down to individual taste at the end of the day. If we all liked the same thing, then the world would be a very boring place.
Fwiw, my dress is strapless, boned and sparkly and I love it. I couldn't give a crap if others thought it was hideous - they don't have to wear it. Also, I do have a tattoo, but its on my hip - so that's reserved for beachwear only

I am going strapless and in red to top it all off... But it is a civil ceremony and I could not give less of a t*ss, I thought about going Goth at a certain point but I thought I might not like the photos 30 years down the line."Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye

you know what, the reason i think most of the dresses in bridal shops are similar looking, if not the same, is because the average age of a bride is going down. The corsetted, full skirted, strapless dress with the 60ft long train and the OTT headress is very young looking and perhaps "trendy". Now i am not saying the older brides don't look gorgeous in this style of dress because they do and i have seen many photos of older brides in these dresses looking fabulous, but that style of dress to me seems younger.
Although to be honest i wouldn't be keen on a puffball meringue or be seen in one. I saw my mum's wedding dress the other day and i can safely say give me the corsetted holding in dress anyday!
I'm not keen on sleeves on a dress or straps but i found a gorgeous maggie sottero dress with lace cap sleeves and i fell in love with it. The best part is, the way the sleeves fall it would cover my small tattoo on my shoulder, although not garish (its a pretty little butterfly) i would most definately be shovelling the cover-up on it on my wedding day so not to ruin my photos.0
