lol, this thread has made me laugh. I have 5 tattoos.... 1 on my stomach, 3 on my lower back and one in between my shoulder blades, while Im not making a conscious effort to cover the only visible one up I am aware that my hair and probably my veil will cover it but I am not bothered at all if it is on show as its who I am.
my sister on the other hand who is one of my BMs has a panther on her boob, 4different ones on her wrist and a massive 'sleeve' she has just started on her shoulder.... I have told her I am not bothered in the slightest if she has them on show but she has let me know she is doing everything she can to cover them up even for the photos...although Im not sure if that is my mums gentle persuasion? lol. I also have a lip peircing which I will be keeping in but substituting my normal bar for a slightly smaller one with a purple crystal (my wedding colours)
With regards to the dress I think the different style is reflective of a different time, Woman are more comfortable in their bodies these days and can wear what they feel comfortable in. I havent really seen any of these strapless corseted dresses that have any cleavage on show as they are all tastefully done so as not to be vulgar, I can understand how it can seem like that just from looking at my parents wedding photos but who wants the world to stay as it was? especially considering not so long ago in the grand scheme of things woman werent even considered individuals?
Anyway, this was just me procrastinating (sp?) from doing some work so think I may have to get back to it
Really interesting discussion - thanks for all the contributions - and at least thinking about my point of view - I knew I'd come across as some aged old bat in my dotage, but I'm honestly not!!
I don't want the world to stay the same, that's not where I'm coming from. I'm of the generation that followed the women who fought for the rest of us to be seen as individuals, so that's not what I'm hankering after - in fact, the only point I'd make about that is that sometimes I despair that so many young women now seem to be too eager to throw away their individuality, and to hear 15 and 16 year olds say that they aspire to be like Victoria Beckham or Jordan - well, what a shame. I've loved the gothic style wedding dresses when I've seen them, because they at least have some flair and some sense of 'this is meeeee' about them, rather than seeming to aim for a 'Tramp Barbie' look that really doesn't do anything but put us back in the lads' mag pigoenhole we had to fight so hard to get away from.
My own wedding photos? The shocker isn't the dress, but the God-awful bubble perm I thought looked just great at the time. Not quite as bad as the comb-over my OH sported on the day, but it's a close run thing. Funny what you don't see until decades later - and yes, it does take your kids to point it out to you!:oReason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
i've only been to a few weddings and had this idea of a 'dream' dress that was long white and strapless, when i started looking for dresses (internet magazines etc) i started getting really depressed about how similar they all looked, all long white boned strapless with some crystals on them. so Mum and I are making the dress a compilation of patterns from the 1950's it might have some crystals on it but otherwise totally unique! and thats what I really wanted

I think there is a dress for every bride out there, isnt that why the choice is so vast? I guess the reason why there is so many strapless dresses now is the reason why there were so many meringues and Bo peep style dresses years ago....fashion?
Whilst I have not yet chosen my dress - haven't even really looked tbh, I am almost certain mine will be strapless, I have a tattoo - or tramp stamp so many people refer to them now on my shoulder and on my wrist, and I wont be covering them up. They are me I got them for a reason, My wrist tattoo is actually of our initials and the same as whats going on our stationary, i will be having the date tattooed on in the future.
It is each to there own of course, thats why we are all individuals. I guess a high % of brides want the Cinderella wedding with the happy ever after, i know that since Katie price got married I have never noticed so many pink wedding dresses!0 -

Strapless, sweet-heart neckline, boned and crystals for me! But I love my dress and I suit the strapless style the best. I'm short and it gives me a bit of length in the body. I know some people might think that this style is ten-a-penny (my mum especially!) but that's fashion for you and it's present in every aspect of what we wear not just our wedding dresses. Yes, alot of wedding dresses out there are similar but there are many ones that aren't as well. Also, strapless wedding dresses haven't just come in to fashion. My sister got married 5 years ago and most of the styles out then were boned and strapless.
My dress might be strapless but as someone else said on another thread, it holds a classic shape whilst being a bit different.
I know that I will feel a million dollars in my dress and to me that's all that matters.

OP - I wasn't taking the mick when I posted, I read back and I'm sorry if it came across that I was!
I just googled modest wedding dresses and thats the site that came up. I actually very nearly bought a so called modest dress myself as I never thought i'd be comfortable in an (almost) straples dress!0
