You know you're getting old when

... ok, I know I'm going to get flamed, but I think I'm going to say this anyway...

I have looked with a passing interest at the wedding dress threads, simply because they were there when I've done 'new posts' searches. I love the enthusiasm and excitement that the brides-to-be have asking for advice and feedback about their dresses, and the supportive way others join in and encourage the choice of dress A,B or C. However, I think it must be my age or something, because every time I click on the links for the dresses, I have to say I look at them and think 'Ooo-errr, not sure about that'. There's no really tactful way to put this, so apologies in advance, but when did wedding dresses get to be mostly strapless, boned and, frankly, well, a bit errrrmmmmmm vulgar-looking?

Needless to say, this isn't aimed at anyone at all, and isn't a comment on any dress in particular - as far as I can see, looking at the other dresses around, they all seem to be a bit like it...

I have to say in a way I agree, there are some gorgeous dresses out there but they mostly seem to be strapless!!

No doubt someone will post a dress on here and prove me wrong!!

mine has thin straps to preserve my modesty! Even though the boning keeps it up well i would be petrified of a popping out moment pmsl

OP - ou might like http://www.totallymodest.com/gowns.html
  • i am going for this strapless idea but am adding a big rose to the hip to bring it to life.

and i also have two tattoos. a small one on my wrist with my sons name and a dragonfly whicch i believe is a spirit.

i really like the plain but dainty as i dont want much detail on my dress :)

but i do agree some dresses are ugly

Mine was originally strapless and I had some straps added. I felt quite down when I started looking at dresses when we first got engaged as they all seemed to be strapless.
Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

haha, you'd hate my look then, 8 tattoos, 13 piercings and a black corset :P Nothing wrong with your views, just for God's sake never say them to a bride :P

I wouldn't want to risk a Judy Finnigan moment with a strapless dress, and no way am I going bare-armed unless I miraculously acquire arms as toned as Madonna.
Then again, I stand firm in my refusal to wear a dress anyway - what I want is a nice ivory coloured pair of wide leg trousers and a nice top that covers the grotty bits of my arms (or Evans to do the one I've got my eye on in my flipping size... or me to drop into one of the sizes they DO do).
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
