Three customers in border areas - free roaming is ending

Seeing the free Vodafone roaming thread (here) reminded me that a manager in a Three shop told me a few weeks ago that their free roaming service "Three Like Home" is ending soon. Just checked now (here) & the bad news is that for anyone using this service near the border or when travelling down south will lose the service from 30th June. Apparently it was only ever a promotional offer! Hmmm...

The manager was not very happy and said there were talks going on about keeping the service in NI as it was such a huge selling point. Anyone else heard anything?

And Vodafone's 'free roaming' is just another promotional offer (3months) It seems their cunning plan is to poach customers from other networks.

Does this include their mobile internet use? It was the only reason I bothered getting a dongle...

As far as I know it's stopping for everything including internet access whether by phone or dongle. No more MSE on the bus or train down south

I'm sure most people who use 3 in Northern Ireland are aware that "3 Like Home" ends on the 30th June. . . . :mad:


But just in case,


It means that when you went across the border as long as your phone switched over to 3IRL your were able to make calls etc without any roaming charges it just came out of your allowance as if you were still in the North.

Thats now gonna stop and we will have to pay a special roaming charge from the 1st July, for 6 months it will be a reduced charge but will change again in January.

This of course could impact you bills quite heavily if you were unaware but it does give you an out from your contract if you have ever used it down South AND it seems you can use it to leave your contract even if you haven't gone cross border - without any penalty.

I have several contracts with 3 and to be fair have been pretty happy with the reception and service but did use the withdrawal of 3 Like Home to get a better deal. :cool:



There is a large thread about the 3 Like Home issue in the mobile forum with a lot of hints and tips but I thought it might be useful to highlight it here as I'm sure it impacts many N.I users.
