Any ideas for a 70th birthday weekend?

Hi, My mother in law is going to be 70 in November and I've just realised that I'm going to be the one who'll have to organise something for it (due to new babies arriving, and other people living abroad!)
I'm sure that we'd like to spend a weekend together (there will be 10 -12 adults and 4 children (ages 0 - 6) and its going to be in november.
We've priced up centreparcs and its going to be too pricey (one of the couples insist on having all the deluxe options!!!!) so we've ruled it out.
Has anyone else got any ideas of where & what we could do?

We are spread all over the UK, Dublin, Southampton, Nottingham but the majority of us (including all the kids) are based in the NW.

I would really really appreciate ideas.

The birthday girl is very simple and doesn't expect anything but has only requested a meal out together, but I'd like to make it a bit more special for her.

Thanks in anticipation of your help!

How about hiring a holiday cottage somewhere thats accessible for everyone and the larger ones tend to have indoor swimming pools/saunas etc for those who want the deluxe option;) If you're all chipping in it usually works out quite reasonable:D
Just agreeing on where may be the tricky bit:rolleyes:

    Good luck x

I think i would look into the house rental option , although you would have to have some agreement about the cooking so that nobody ends up doing it all.

If you want center parcs cant you all book your own accomodation and pay for the birthday girls? Would it matter that you are not all in the same accomodation as you can meet during the day and the evening?

We hired a hall for a family party last may and paid for all the food and drink and invited close family and friends. We paid for our accomodation as we live abroad but the rest of the family drove home.

Look at Southern Ireland for a large property to rent, although the Euro rate will have made it dearer than it used be we have always had great value compared to the Lakes or other UK holiday spots. You might get lucky with cheap flights too...

A bit early to look yet for the sale offers, but deveres often do £10 sale rooms, the one that went up until 31st July has just finished. The one near Chester is 4 star with a pool, spa etc according to the webiste. Usually the Deveres have lounges, with coffee facilities for you to socialise and have a restaurant for your meal. 3 courses are usually £15, with kids costing £6. It would also be handy for cheap Ryanair flights to Liverpool for t the family coming from Dublin. Kids stay free, you usually have to ring up and ask for extra beds (up to 2) to go in the rooms.
